Transformation Day

Each modified car undergoes a greater or lesser metamorphosis. However, not many starts their lives as a completely different model than the one they become thanks to the work of their owner. This case is therefore very interesting…

Volkswagen T5 Gepfeffert

Apart from the cult, historic models of the legendary Volkswagen bus, the last generations are associated primarily with a typical car for special tasks. A dirty, neglected, often barely moving, typical working ox. A multitude of body and equipment versions has always favored all kinds of entrepreneurs: Transporters love both bakers, plumbers and builders as well as business owners who have to provide their marketing materials from time to time. This car is known at every latitude and in one form or another is present on almost every street, being in possession of people from various social classes.

I takie przykłady można mnożyć!

There are places, such as the United Kingdom, in which the multi-purpose Volkswagen are not treated so badly. As an example, I deliberately gave this country, because only on the Islands you can take a magazine dedicated exclusively to all types of 'T’, join innumerable dedicated forums, or give the car to a company dealing exclusively with Volkswagen bus modifications (check Lowdown Transporters). It just so happens that the craziest designs based on the T5 and T6 generations have just been created on the Thames. Just mention the 745-horsepower copy of Andi Riley with the V8 engine from the Audi RS4, or the Iain Dickinson’s T5 described by us in 2016 (http://volxzone.com/moby-dick/). Oh, have you ever seen a T6 with four seats from an Audi RS4 and a carbon front? No? But you guessed it, it was also built in Great Britain! And such examples can be multiplied! It is surprising that in the mother country of Volkswagen such projects are built much, much less.

One of the glorious exceptions is presented T5 (it’s not a mistake, but wait a moment) from Andy Pfeffer. If there is a list of people from the scene, which you do not need to present to anyone (and you certainly do not need to our regular Readers), then there you can find definitely a popular Gepfeffert. His excellent projects are regularly hosted at VOLXZONE and certainly there are more than one photoshoot ahead of us. But let’s get back to the topic. Although the idea of a 'bus’ in the pictures was not meant to be any outstanding project, Andy would not be himself if his new purchase remained a boring, stock Transporter. „I bought this car because I needed a car in the company that could transport rims, tires, suspension, such things. By the way, I wanted to have something to pull a tow truck on which I would drive my very low Mk1 and Mk2. By the way, on weekends, I love riding a bike or a motorcycle, so it’s good to have a car that you can pack them easily”- he says.

The search did not last long. Quickly on one of the popular auction portals he managed to find cheap copy equipped with everything you need. An additional advantage was the short distance from the house: Andy had to overcome just 30 kilometers. During the inspection Andy met with a funny situation. While many people on our stage will wrap their cars in the colors of well-known companies, such as Coca-Cola (how many variations we have already seen on this subject), he got a real delivery-van of this brand. What’s more, with the purchase Andy received special certificates confirming its authenticity. „It’s funny that during the inspection, when you looked at the right angle, the paint still had a characteristic logo. However, unlike many tuners, I did not intend to use it on my car”- he explains.

Do samochodu trafiły więc wszystkie elementy z T6 w topowej odmianie Multivan: maska, błotniki, zderzak, grill, reflektory, lusterka i tylne lampy.

„From the very beginning I had a ready plan for the final look. Regardless of the color of the body, I knew that when I bought the T5, I put them on 21″ wheels and change its appearance, similar to the newer generation” continues Andy. And because he belongs to people who always fulfill their promises, this is the plan that has been put into practice. So all the elements from the T6 in the top Multivan variety hit the car: bonnet, fenders, bumper, grill, headlights, mirrors and rear lamps. The whole operation was helped by Simon Stracker (his vision for the pre-production Audi RS3 we described on our blog in 2016: http://volxzone.com/custom-made/), thanks to who the work was quick and easy. „Contrary to appearances, the entire upgrade turned out to be trivial. We only needed a half day for the whole transformation”- says Andy, although to be honest, looking at the aesthetics of the whole, it’s hard to believe.

Andy got used us to the fact that there are many details in his designs that can only be seen on the second and sometimes third glance. It is no different in this case. And no, I do not mean the Golf Mk6 steering wheel, or spoiler on the tailgate. Although it does not indicate anything, in this car there were never rear windows and so de facto… they are still not there! In order not to lose any of the usefulness of the car and its ability to carry loads, Andy did not decide to insert windows, but because of the visual aspect decided to create their imitation by placing the glass panels onto the bus. Infrequent situations in which someone is trying to look through them must be really fun for Andy!

The icing on the cake of Andreas’s workhorse is, of course, wheels and suspension. As for the latter, there is no way it could be otherwise: for the lowering of the T5 (or maybe already T6?) there is original Gepfeffert KW V3 suspension, which together with the modified rear axle allowed to bring the body closer to the asphalt. And what about the rims: „I turned to the Motec company asking them to make a Tornado model for me in the specification that I am interested in, that is most importantly, the diameter of 21 inches. I decided to have a fully polished finish, and additionally for me Motec made a caps imitating the central locking with the Gepfeffert logo.” However, it’s good to know big names in the industry.

As I mentioned at the beginning, Transporter-Transformer is for Andreas primarily a company car, which has to carry his more advanced projects for European events. That’s why this material is a kind of introduction to the article, which will soon appear on our blog, and which will bring you closer to a very, very interesting project that travels around the world together with the presented T5.
